Chaparral Basketball
By:Destiny Peffly

This year at Chaparral we have 21 girls and 30 boys going out for this season. The head coach of the boys basketball team is Josh Inslee. The head coach for the girls is Coach Cody Liebelt. The first week of basketball practice is all about getting in shape and covering drills. Boys have two practices one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Girls only have one in the afternoon, but they will sometimes have morning practices,as well practices typically last from 3:40 to 5:40.

The boys and girls first basketball game is on December 5. Coach Liebelts main goal this season is to improve effort and attitude, and Coach Islee’s main goal for this season is to get to regionals. One the main goals for the girls team is to beat Garden Plain and also to get to state.

Basketball is a very athletic sport, it will get you into shape fast. “My legs already are killing me and we’ve only had two practices!”- Abigail, in the girls practice we do a lot of drills and running to make us better at the sport and get us in shape for our upcoming games. The first week of practice is a conditioning week to really get you in shape.”See a lot of potential. Have a lot of time to improve, which requires hard work.” said -Coach Liebelt, when I asked coach Liebelt what some of the girl’s weaknesses were he replied “Our weaknesses are that we are very inexperienced, everything we are learning is new, we need to improve in attitudes and efforts lacking in intensity”-Coach Liebelt.  I asked Coach Insee the same question and his reply was “Are two biggest weaknesses are height and rebounding.”-Coach Insee

How is the season looking? “We have some more Interest than last year. We have a lot of improvements to make and a lot to learn. If the players buy into the program then we have a chance to win some games”-Cody Liebelt “Our season is looking very promising”- Coach Islee.
