Popular  Fashion Trend at Chaparral High School.
By: Kyli Craig

Our generation is full of color and new ideas. When it comes to fashion our generation always wants to look good everywhere we go. The trendy casual outfit for women is high boots or comfortable shoes, scarf, skinny jeans, and a nice shirt with a jacket over it. Mens casual outfits include skinny jeans, some sort of t-shirt, a jacket over it, and some sort of tennis shoe.

At Chaparral High School, there are a group of teenagers (Paris Stierwalt, Samantha Mathes, Ashlan Mathes, JT Molina, Montana Miller, and Eric Vogt) that have the same style as what we see on celebrities. ” I wear my clothes to look like a stud and feel good about myself” Eric Vogt said. “I wake in the morning sad I usually wear dark clothes, but when i'm happy i look towards more colorful clothes” Paris Stierwalt said with her beautiful white smile. Samantha Mathes said “ This is me, this represents me without words!” “ I would have to say when people dress better it makes you feel better not only about yourself but it makes you look like you are well kept”, Ashlan Mathes said with a smile. “I wake up in the morning and put on clothes that make me look fresh, and go on with my day” Montana Miller chuckled. J.T Molina our FBLA and STUDOCO Vice President, said “The way I dress makes me feel like I'm one of a kind, so my fashion is going to be offset by everyone elses!”

Fashion describes us emotionally and physically. It is just another way to express how we feel. For example, if we are having a bad day or a “not in the mood to try” day, both girls and guys usually wear sweats and a t-shirt, but girls will put their hair up in a top bun. Fashion is just as important in our lives as food, and these students always seem to look their best for school.

The Suessical
By Jarret Fox

The Chaparral Singers musical, The Seussical, was last Friday and Saturday night. All of the weeks of hard work had paid off as the musical was a favorite in the community. For those of you who couldn't make here is how the story took place.

The two main characters were Roger Clark played as The Cat in the Hat, which became the narrator of the story and who got got Jojo, played by Dakota Young, in lots of imaginary trouble. The other main character was Alphonse Guerrero who played as Horton the elephant. The story played as the storyline of Horton Hears a Who. If you are not familiar with the story, Horton the elephant hears tiny voices on a "speck" of dust. Horton tells everybody but he is caught as being a fool and nobody thinks he is in his right mind. Horton tries to make everyone believe, with the help of the “Whos” that lived on the speck. Horton was in even more trouble though when Mayzie the bird, played by Cassidy Konkel, left her egg with Horton and he watched it until it hatched.

The whole Chaparral Singers group did a great job and their hard work definitely paid off. The musical was a hit both Friday and Saturday night as it was not only enjoyed by little ones but grown ups too! Great job Chaparral Singers!

Royals won against giants!
By: Jake Hysom

The Kansas City royals won the game against the San Francisco giants. The score was 10-0, and it was the sixth game, on Tuesday night. The manager of the royals said he secretly wanted seven games, for the thrill. The royals are moving onto there seventh game at Kauffman stadium on Wednesday at eight p.m. If the royals win tonight, they advance a little bit more to become World Series champions of 2014! Meanwhile the manager is thrilled they got this far, he still wants them to keep going.

Royals manager, Ned Yost, was questioned before the game, he said "there is always tomorrow." It was as defensive as much as definitive.

Heaven is for Real Movie Review
By: Denver Hartson

Recently I watched the movie "Heaven is for Real". This movie is about a little boy named Colton who gets very sick and comes close to dying. During his stages of near death he claims that he went to Heaven and spoke with God. All of the people that he tells think he's just having dreams or making the whole thing up. But his father Patrick actually believes that he did speak with God. Patrick preaches to his church about his son's experience but the congregation despises him for it because they think it's a cruel joke.

The congregation then meets with Patrick and asks him to stop preaching about it. His wife also thinks that he's crazy so Patrick talks more to his son about his experience and gets more information. Colton's mom Sonja finally believes that he really did speak with God when he says that he saw the baby that they were going to have for their first child but it died before birth.  The boy explained to her that she looked just like his sister only with different colored hair. After the mom believes him they talk to the people at their church and they come to and agreement that it's possible that it happened.

While searching for more information on the subject, the father finds that there is another child who had a similar experience. This girl was able to paint a picture of Jesus that is different than all the others that people are used to because she also saw God. This movie is a great movie in my opinion and you should watch it, but be aware that it could offend some people because it's a religious film.

Akame ga kill!

By: Jerrod Pulliam

Akame ga Kill! is an anime (japanese animation) that follows a boy named Tatsumi who
comes from a small village outside of the capital. Tatsumi and two of his friends travel to the capital to enlist in the army so they can send the money they earn to their village. They get separated on the way to the capital Tatsumi makes it to the capital tries to enlist but is rejected do to an overflow of enlistments. He runs into a woman who promises that she can get him in through a friend for a “small” fee. He gives her all of his money and waits for her all day until he realizes that he has been swindled. Tatsumi then prepares to sleep in the street until a carriage stops and a young noble’s daughter invites him to sleep at their place. Tatsumi tells the family the reason he is in the capital and the daughter's father promises Tatsumi that he will tell the guards to keep an eye out for his friends. Two nights later the family is attacked by a group of assassins call Night Raid. Night Raid kills the mother and father and Tatsumi attempts to protect their daughter. Tatsumi is about to be killed by one of the assassins; Akame. just before She is about to kill Tatsumi Akame is stopped by one of her friends in night raid the woman who had swindled Tatsumi and shows him why they are killing the family. The family had a hidden shed where they took people they picked up off the street and tortured them to death and as it happens Tatsumi’s two friends of the tortured victims. Tatsumi is angered and kills the noble’s daughter. The woman who had swindled Tatsumi tells him that it is not just this family but almost anybody with power above the common people and it is the prime minister’s fault. Tatsumi showing promise the woman takes him back to Night raid’s secret base to recruit him into Night Raid.

Akame ga kill! is a good anime that can keep a comedic and serious tone to it, but when ever the story begins to become serious the tone starts to become dark. Such as people being cut in half or or being decapitated. The show show has memorable characters like Tatsumi  who is high spirited and devoted to what he does. Akame is a young girl that was trained to be a deadly assassin for the empire turned rogue. Sheele is a woman who is clumsy at everything she does except for when she kills.

The anime is really good but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who in general doesn’t like to see blood. Over all I give it an 8/10 for memorable characters with different personalities.

The Overload on the Werewolf Fetish!
By: Kyli Craig

Teenage girls are drawn to the bulky, tan, tattoos, and the bad boy look. Lately the entertainment industry has made a move toward the werewolf trend. They have turned a vicious wolf into an attractive male. Today there have been a lot of movies and TV shows that involve werewolves. Examples include True Blood, Twilight, and Teen Wolf. There are a lot of of teens that are addicted to this werewolf trend.
Teen girls are obsessed over the new show Teen Wolf. Why is that? Well, the character in this show is a very handsome, muscular, and funny. Every girl’s dream guy is sweet to her, but a dare devil when he is with friends. So, what is best then is to make him dangerous on a full moon and fall in love with the most beautiful girl in the school.

The werewolf fetish all started around 2009 when the Twilight Saga came out, then it just exploded from there. The drive for teenage girls is to watch the rest of the Saga is because they get to see hot werewolves take their shirts off and run until they turn into bloodthirsty vampire killers. The stereotype werewolf is young, muscular, and sweet. Usually the werewolf ends up finding love which also appeals to the young female demographic.

The female population watches a movie that involves a really handsome werewolf because it appeals to them. So, when girls find out the producers made a new movie to add to the Saga, they go crazy and pay a lot of money just to watch a handsome werewolf. When in reality you can wait until that movie comes out on DVD. Its like guys watching “Baywatch.”The show is stupid but the guys watch it just to see the girls in swimsuits run along the shoreline.

Deer Hunting
By Dylan Drouhard

My favorite way to entertain myself is to go hunting. There are a lot of animals to hunt but my favorite is deer. Sadly there is a season deer which is during the fall or rut season that when you get to hunt the most common animal in Kansas the white tailed deer. These are the most common in Kansas. Hunting is all about patience, if you aren't patient then you won't last long hunting there are good days and bad days. A good day is when you go out and see a lot of deer for example, maybe you get a shot and get a big 12pt buck. A bad day is when you walk around and don't see a thing.

What do I use? I use rather a my compound bow or the 30-30 lever action rifle to deer hunt. There are 5 main seasons. There is youth and disability(September 6 -16), muzzuloader (September 15-28), archery (September 15 -December 31), prerut firearm for doe (October 11-12) and finally firearms (December 3-14). Deer hunting is a lot of work if you go with feed plots and fancy equipment. The way I do it is just let nature make them big it is a lot cheaper than spending so much money on licks, seeds for the food plot ect. The only thing I buy doe urine to attract the big bucks my way.

If you don't do at being patient then you won't be a good hunter. Rut season tends starts to start in the fall. Signs of rut include in deer appearing in strange areas and leave less rubs or marks on trees. During rut you want to look for does, because the big bucks won't be far way. Why do I hunt deer? Because of deer sticks the best things that come out of a deer. They a lot better than beef, turkey and pork.

2014-2015 Yearbook; How Do They Do It?
By Jarret Fox

A school's yearbook is reference to what happened that past school year. Later on in your life you can reflect back and use a yearbook to remind you of your good memories in high school. This week I interviewed Jaci Ummel, a member of the 2014-2015 Chaparral High School Yearbook staff. She explained to me how they make the yearbook and for what reason.

Jaci said that a yearbook is something to notify people of what the past year's students and teachers did. Now a good question is, how do they do it? Jaci said that first they have take pictures of the varsity sports games and other school activities. She also mentioned that the yearbook class goes to both towns, Harper and Anthony, to recieve orders for ads and then as a class create the ads using layouts online. The class, yearbook, does evidently explain what else they do in the class. Jaci says that the class uses Yearbook Avenue By Jostens online to make the pages for the yearbook.

Taking pictures, making ads, and using Yearbook Avenue is how the CHS Yearbook staff make our yearbooks awesome. If you want to learn more about Yearbook you can contact Mr. Hill or any of the other yearbook staff members. Make sure to order a 2014-2015 CHS Yearbook, it will be great!

The Fault In Our Stars

By Destiny Peffly

My review: My take on “The Fault in Our Stars” was breathtaking! I sincerely loved the book! I’ve read it twice. Once I bought the book I couldn’t put it down, the format was delightful and well placed, setting, the meaning, the message that the writer was placing was all clear.

I wish it had a better ending, but reality doesn’t always having the ending we were hoping for; we get surprised and then understand later why the ending ended the way it did. How The Faults in Our Stars came to take place was that John Green discovered a sixteen year old cancer patient with  thyroid cancer, who later passed away, her name was Esther Earl . Then that gave him the idea to write the book.

My Recommendation: I highly recommend that if you’re into tearjerkers or romances that you should read this love story about a beautiful cancer patient and a not so normal high school boy!  It will steal your heart away!  The book was released on January 20th 2012. The movie was just released on July 6th 2014!

In conclusion it was an amazing book really opens your eyes to reality, and how not to take things for granted even taking a breath. If I've not convenienced you then you should go read it for yourself!

The Review of the Movie Fault in Our Stars

By Keely Ridlen
Based on the book by John  Green

Hazel Grace found out that she has Stage 4 Thyroid Cancer. Hazel’s doctor puts her on a drug that is on a experiment, it is called phalanxifor (Which doesn’t actually exist). Her mom thinks that Hazel is depressed, so her doctor told her that she wants her to try going to a cancer support group to help with the emotions of having cancer. Hazel meets Augustus at Cancer Support group and over time they fall in love.

Fault in Our Stars came out to theaters on June 6th, 2014.  Fault in Our Stars (TFIOS) took place in Indianapolis. Its 126 minutes and you will enjoy every minute of it. It is a Romance & Drama movie. The rating is PG-13. Movie is directed by Josh Boone and the screenplay is by Michael H. Weber. Lead actor/actress is Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley.

John Green wrote TFIOS (The Fault in Our Stars) that the movie was based on. Esther Earl inspired John Green to write the book. She was only 16 years old when she died from Thyroid  cancer. She has a book called ‘The Star Won’t Go Out’. I don’t know if you noticed, but Hazel has Esther’s middle name, which is Grace. I think that is pretty cool and shows how he is really inspired to write about her. On IMDb shows that the movie is rated an 8.2/10.

I would personally rate the movie a 9/10 and here is why: I read the book and loved it because it was so inspiring and it wasn’t a depressing book to read, it was very happy and they looked forward to the future. I would read it again because it is just that great of a book. The book and the movie were almost spot on, and there were a couple things that they left out. Little things that got left out of the movie were how they got picked up to go to Amsterdam together. In the book Gus was yelling at his mom before he left for Amsterdam, because she doesn’t think it would be good for his health.  In the book, Hazel and her mom picked Augustus up, but in the movie Augustus picks Hazel up in a limo. Hazel doesn’t put her ‘Desperate Lonely Swing Set’ for sale like she does in the book. I would suggest this movie to anyone that wants a movie to show how much cancer affects your life and the people around you. Most teenage girls will like this book for two reasons, One is that Augustus is very good looking and two this is just a great movie in general. Now go see it yourself. The movie will be released to DVD on September 16th, 2014. Don’t forget the Kleenex!
