The Importance of Secretaries in CHS!
By: Kyli Craig

Dana Craig is our new book keeper in Chaparral High School. She has two kids named Kyli and Haden Craig. Her husband who works for the city of Argonia, Buddy Craig supports her through the new change in their life. Dana works her butt off to make sure everything is going perfect and is moving smoothly. Dana started working at CHS on August 1,2014 and so far she loves the job she has. Even thought that she works at the front desk in the office she still keeps in tacked of her job. Dont know how she does it but she can drown out all the noise around her and just focus on what is in front of her.

Teah makes sure that the office is running smoothly by answering phone calls and keeping track of students/teachers that are sick or in trouble. The reason why Teah is so dedicated with her job I because is you didn't have a office secratary the whole office would be in chaos and that is where Teah comes in. She also as to make sure that everything is organized and under control. Teah Howard Chaparral's office secretary that has been here since last year January 20th 2014. She has to hassle with four kids, Devin who is the oldest, Brandon the middle child, Allyson who is 10, and Cainin the youngest of the four. Ryan (Howie) is the husband of the house, he makes sure the boys are well behaved and make his little girl feel like a princess. Teah also has two cats that she spoils and loves.

The importance of having a bookkeeper is handling the money, having integrity, skill, and patience. " If i'm not careful and precise, there are accounting errors and that makes the auditor unhappy"-Dana. The reason why Dana is so dedicated to her job as a secretary is because she says she has had 20 years of experience in customer service, is good with people, and always puts on a smile that show others that shes friendly. She plans on helping out with the students by leading by example, being positive, and care for them. " i love being involved to help make Chaparral the best it can be" -Dana. Tea wants to help keep the students organized and in a good mood. "When a kid is in a bad mood I always try to show smiles and make their day better."-Teah

Having secretaries is so important to Chaparral High School. They are basically the backbone of the whole building. They are the ones who organize the school for the students and help give special privileges to those who have earned them. Thank you so much to Dana and Teah for keeping us in line and putting a smile on our faces.

“Being The New Kid”
By:Destiny Peffly

Being the new student can be very stressful, hard, stressful, and exciting. It can also be very stressful to get into the right peer group, worrying about being accepted, getting good grades, and getting to the right classes on time are just some of the many things that can be stressful on the new kids. But for some students, however, the experience is wonderful and they have no trouble.

Kyli Craig is one of our new students here at Chaparral High School. She started attending CHS at the beginning of the school year.“Its been chill here, there are a lot of nice people considering my past experience with different schools that I have been in” said Kyli. So her her experience so far has been quite nice. Considering what she said. Her expectations of high school is to meet new people, have fun, and get good grades. She appreciates that the school has a lot of nice people, and that are a variety of peer groups and courses.  Kyli is involved in Chaparral singers, is the manager of the football team, is planning on participating in track, and is hoping to be a cheerleader for the basketball team.

As you can see, the new life of a new student can be difficult or not hard at all.  Chaparral hopes to keep getting new students to make our school grow and blossom. Chaparral tries its hardest to make newcomers feel welcomed and accepted. Kylis Advice to new students “Be opened minded, and be yourself. I know you feel like the outcast but don’t follow others that try to change you, and don’t pretend to be someone that you’re not”. With that being said the new kid can be hard, but using this advice can help you have a successful year.

The Life of a High Schooler
By: Keely Ridlen

School         Jobs                  Chores                      Friends

Being a high schooler isn’t easy. Many students have a lot of stress from all their responsibilities. Some adults think they don’t have big responsibilities, but jobs, school, chores, and keeping friendships all add up to quite the load for a normal teenager.

Most high schoolers are stressed out during their teenage years. Teachers expect  homework to be turned in on time and that it will receive a good grade. When you have a job as a high schooler your boss expects you to get get to work on time and to make sure you are doing your job to the best of your abilities. Your parents expect that you have good grades, helping out around the house, home on time, and spend time with them. If you are an athlete then you also have to balance all of that with sports. Your coach expects you to have good grades so that you are able to play in the game. You also have to worry if you are making time for your friends in the middle of all the other responsibilities.

High schoolers have many responsibilities they are accountable for on a daily basis. Some responsibilities might be saving money, getting good grades, doing chores, and maybe paying  bills already. It is important to learn how to organize  your daily life in order to be fulfilled in every area.

Student Life

During the dance every class gets a kiss point a Kiss points are for a competition that we do at school for example if a sophomore shows up at the dance the sophomores get a point for that student. Homecoming will be a very fun experience for everyone that goes if you've never been to homecoming then come to this years fall homecoming and have some fun!

A lot of students are getting excited for homecoming this Friday, September 26th. Especially the parade and the dance afterwards Friday night. There are a lot  of activities going on before the dance. Including the float competition, the parade, the pep rally, and then the dance. All the students really enjoy getting involved with these homecoming activities.

The football game that night will be played against our rivals the Medicine Lodge Indians. The student council comes up with the songs and activities for the dance they try to mix it up every year. The apparel for this years fall homecoming is casual witch mean jeans and a shirt. Like attire you would wear to school everyday. Which is less formal than the winter homecoming which requires tux's and dresses.

A Chat with Christain Ginevri

By Emerald Young

I had the opportunity to speak with a foreign exchange student, his name is Christian Ginevri. He's a seventeen year old senior here at Chapparal High School. Christian came to the United States all the way from Bologna, Italy. Christian is staying with the Schrants and he says he is very lucky to be there with them. I asked Christian what brings him to America and his reply was "to know about a new way of living and cultures, improve my English, play basketball and improve my skills, also because I would like to come back to The U.S after graduation to study in a college and play in a college team."

Christian started learning English at the age of six years old. In Italy they start learning the English language in the first year of school. When asked how school is different here than Italy his response was "the school compared to the Italian school is easier, but I have to study and speak only English so it's harder for now. We'll see later what's going to happen". Christian has not found any aspects of life here in America that he disapproves of yet. How do you like it here in the U.S? "It's awesome, everything is different here. The shops, the people and the school! It seems like everything is bigger."

Christian enjoys how people want to know everything about him. It makes him feel like the star of the school because everyone asks him questions. He is very excited and happy to be here. Christian has not got homesick yet but he does miss his little sister. I asked him if he was scared or nervous to come to the U.S and is answer was this "I didn't know anyone and I was scared to speak English in front of people or to speak a bad English.

Do You Think You Know Tarren

By Dylan Drouhard

What do you know about Tarren. Let's find out what you know about Tarren. This will go over what she likes and why she likes coming to Chaparral High School.

Tarren is a Sophomore. Her favorite sports are basketball, Powerlifting and she got 1st place in her weight class. In track which she got 7th in Javelin regionals. What is her favorite subject? That would be biology because she gets to learn more about animals and more on the human body. Why does she like Chaparral High School. She likes school because she gets to learn new things everyday, having fun and to see her friends.  Now what does she hate. She hates golf because it is boring.

What makes Tarren so special is that it is hard to make her mad. She can take a lot of stress. Another thing is she is not afraid to step up and meet new people that something that a lot of people can't do.

Who is Shawn Nulik?

By:Kyli Craig

Shawn Nulik is our star quarterback of Chaparral High School and Pep Club member in school. But who is Shawn really when not doing sports and pep club? Well Shawn is just a normal teenage boy who hangs out with friends, plays with his dog, and doesn't know how to dance. He helps others and motivates them to do better; like in football, he makes sure he puts his team first and tries to lead them to victory! Shawn is a very athletic student and hopes to go far with his football career, with a K-state University scholarship and maybe become a pro football player when he gets out of college.

Shawn’s expectations for high school are very high. He gets all A’s so he can be eligible for school sports and the extra privileges our school has. He's very social and wants to make new friends, so that they can fit in like all the other students in CHS. Shawn started sports at six years old and has been playing them ever since. “Just playing in front of a crowd and hearing them cheer your name is the most amazing feeling ever!” Shawn says while smiling at the flashback. “I just like being part of the team and being dependable with others.” Shawn says.

Shawn wants to be the best he can be with the exception of being there for others, making them laugh, and leading them to the right path. Being the best you can be while working hard to make that the right decision. Making the best effort to fulfill the goal you're trying to achieve!
