Roadrunners Scalp Indians On Homecoming Night

Roadrunners Scalp Indians On Homecoming Night
By Jarret Fox

It was a great day for homecoming and football last Friday as the 2-1 Chaparral Roadrunners took on the 1-2 Medicine Lodge Indians. After the homecoming ceremony and the Star-Spangled Banner was played by the Chaparral band we were finally ready for kickoff.

In the first quarter, the Runners started out on a fast pace as Shawn Nulik ran for an early Chaparral touchdown. The very next drive, Chaparral linebacker Pierce Bringer was helped off the field as he left the game with an arm injury. Later in the quarter, Shawn Nulik connected with Roger Clark for a Chaparral touchdown to add to the Roadrunners early lead.

In the second quarter, Shawn Nulik ran for his second touchdown of the night but the Medicine Lodge Indians came back quickly with a touchdown of their own. On the kickoff, Ramon Valderez returned the kick all the way back into the Indians territory. That play later set up a long touchdown run by Shawn Nulik. The defense even got into some of the scoring action as Roger Clark returned an interception all the way back for another Runners touchdown. The agony continued for the Indians as Shawn Nulik and Weston Schroeder also found the end zone before the first half was over.

After a 52-8 halftime score Shawn Nulik found the end zone for his fifth touchdown of the night and scored the only points of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Runners then put in their Junior Varsity team who only allowed one Medicine Lodge touchdown just before the winding minutes. The Roadrunners won with a final score of 58-15 to advance their record to 3-1.
