The Review of the Movie Fault in Our Stars
By Keely Ridlen
Based on the book by John Green
Hazel Grace found out that she has Stage 4 Thyroid Cancer. Hazel’s doctor puts her on a drug that is on a experiment, it is called phalanxifor (Which doesn’t actually exist). Her mom thinks that Hazel is depressed, so her doctor told her that she wants her to try going to a cancer support group to help with the emotions of having cancer. Hazel meets Augustus at Cancer Support group and over time they fall in love.
Fault in Our Stars came out to theaters on June 6th, 2014. Fault in Our Stars (TFIOS) took place in Indianapolis. Its 126 minutes and you will enjoy every minute of it. It is a Romance & Drama movie. The rating is PG-13. Movie is directed by Josh Boone and the screenplay is by Michael H. Weber. Lead actor/actress is Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley.
John Green wrote TFIOS (The Fault in Our Stars) that the movie was based on. Esther Earl inspired John Green to write the book. She was only 16 years old when she died from Thyroid cancer. She has a book called ‘The Star Won’t Go Out’. I don’t know if you noticed, but Hazel has Esther’s middle name, which is Grace. I think that is pretty cool and shows how he is really inspired to write about her. On IMDb shows that the movie is rated an 8.2/10.
I would personally rate the movie a 9/10 and here is why: I read the book and loved it because it was so inspiring and it wasn’t a depressing book to read, it was very happy and they looked forward to the future. I would read it again because it is just that great of a book. The book and the movie were almost spot on, and there were a couple things that they left out. Little things that got left out of the movie were how they got picked up to go to Amsterdam together. In the book Gus was yelling at his mom before he left for Amsterdam, because she doesn’t think it would be good for his health. In the book, Hazel and her mom picked Augustus up, but in the movie Augustus picks Hazel up in a limo. Hazel doesn’t put her ‘Desperate Lonely Swing Set’ for sale like she does in the book. I would suggest this movie to anyone that wants a movie to show how much cancer affects your life and the people around you. Most teenage girls will like this book for two reasons, One is that Augustus is very good looking and two this is just a great movie in general. Now go see it yourself. The movie will be released to DVD on September 16th, 2014. Don’t forget the Kleenex!
