Float Competition
By Denver Hartson
The float competion is coming up September 26th for Chaparral high school. The float competition is an activity that we do for homecoming. Every high school class(freshmen, sophmores, juniors and seniors) comes up with ideas and works on their float. All ideas and floats are kept hidden and secret until the actual day of the competition. That way other classes can't steal ideas from one another. Then they take all the floats down the Main Street in Anthony and have a parade for the towns people to watch. Last year the freshmen won with the best float. Their class sponsors were Mr. Newsum and Mr. Bartlett. It was a very close race between the freshmen and the juniors with the freshmen winning by 2 points.
This year's competition will be held in Anthony on Main Street and the theme is the Wizard of Oz. During the homecoming game that night the football team will play our rivals the Medicine Lodge. Kids really enjoy having this competition because it's a great way to get involved in school and have some fun with homecoming.
If you come watch the parade you can expect some fun and creativity with the floats! There are a lot of ideas that classes have come up with for this year's theme. I'm sure the race for 1st place will be very close. That's why every student has to give maximum effort for their class to win. So if you want to see who wins you will have to come to the competition and see for yourself!
